The Bible teaches us in 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 that we can be absolutely confident as Christians that when we leave this physical body we will be present with the Lord in Heaven. Though it is true, we know we will be with Jesus there are some things that we need to make sure we do not leave behind. Several years ago, I heard a message that encouraged Christians to make sure they did not leave behind these seven things.
An Unused Talent
The Bible warns us of the servant who stood before his lord with his talent buried. Jesus referred to him as a wicked servant. We need to make sure that if God has given us talents that we use them for Him.
A Bible that has Never Been Read
Someone said years ago, “The Bible is God’s love letter to mankind, therefore we should read our mail.”
An Unhappy Memory
The Bible teaches us over and over again, if we have a problem with a brother or sister in Christ that we need to go and get that right. God knows about it, and the Devil knows about it, don’t let it be an unhappy me memory be unresolved. The Apostle Paul said that his conscience was void of offense between God and man. That statement should be made by every Christian.
An Unfinished Task
God has called and created each of us for a specific purpose. Paul said, “I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” I don’t know what it is that God has for you to do, but make sure you do it to the best of your ability, so you don’t leave behind an unfinished task.
An Unregenerate Family
How sad it would be to be in Heaven knowing that you have children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends, and relatives that have not been given the Gospel. We cannot force a person to trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, but we should do all we can to give the Gospel and we should pray for the salvation of our lost friends and loved ones.
Un Unpaid Debt
In Romans 13, we are admonished to owe no man anything but to love. We should do everything to make sure that every debt we owe is paid. Debts are not always necessarily financial. We can owe debts in the area of service. We can owe emotional debts and certainly, we owe a debt to the Lord Jesus Christ to share the Gospel with everyone we come in contact with. Paul said my hands are free from the blood of all men. Let’s make sure that we don’t leave behind any unpaid debts.
Unanswered Questions about Eternity
What a sad thing it is to go to the funeral of someone and not know whether or not they are in Heaven. It is so important that we as believers let others know that we put our faith and trust in Christ so that they can have the confidence that we are spending eternity with Jesus.
The truth is no hearse will ever pull a U-Haul trailer. We are going to leave all of our material possessions behind. Let’s not leave behind these things which are so important for eternity.
