9 Reasons I Am Not Going To Heaven
There seems to be much discussion today in religious circles about the specifics of who goes to Heaven, and who doesn’t. Regardless of what religious authorities and philosophers may think, the Bible is very clear about this topic. Now what seems to be all the confusion about? My next few articles will be about how we can get to Heaven, but before I discuss that, I want to let you know the reasons that I know will not get me there… Here they are:
1 – I am not going to Heaven because I am good.
In Romans 3:10 it says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one”. That includes me. There is no way my goodness can get me to Heaven because the Bible tells me I am not good, and neither are you.
2 – I am not going to Heaven because I am a preacher.
In Matthew 7:21-23 there are several preachers that are standing in front of the Lord and He looks at them and says, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” No one gets to Heaven just because they know how to preach well.
3 – I am not going to Heaven because I go to church.
Someone once said, “Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, anymore than going to a garage makes you a car.” Going to church is a good thing. In Acts 2, we read that the early church met every single day, but I am not going to Heaven because I go to church.
4 – I am not going to Heaven because I say that Jesus is Lord.
In Matthew 7:21, Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven”. I am not going to Heaven because I know that Jesus is Lord.
5 – I am not going to Heaven because I was baptized.
The Apostle Paul makes it very clear that baptism has nothing to do with being saved. In 1 Corinthians 1:17 Paul writes, “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel”. The gospel message is that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose from the dead to pay for my sins. Baptism has nothing to do with the gospel message; it is just a picture of what happened to me when I received Christ.
6 – I am not going to Heaven because I love my wife.
In Ephesians 5:25 it says, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”. I do love my wife, I love her very much, but I am not going to Heaven because I am a good husband or because I love my wife.
7 – I am not going to Heaven because I pray every day.
I make it a practice to pray almost daily. However, I am not going to Heaven because I pray. In Matthew 6:7, Jesus said, “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” There are people who pray every day that are not going to make it to Heaven according to Jesus. They think they are being heard because they speak a lot but that does not mean they are being heard. Prayer is a powerful tool, but we do not get to Heaven because we pray.
8 – I am not going to Heaven because I obey the Ten Commandments.
Many times when I talk to people about going to Heaven, they say they think they are going because they try to obey the Ten Commandments. The Apostle Paul in Galatians 2:16 wrote, “for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”Obeying the law will not get me to Heaven because I cannot obey the law. I cannot live by the Golden Rule. I cannot make it to Heaven by myself.
9 – I am not going to Heaven because I am religious.
In John 3, a Pharisee named Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. Jesus said to him, just like everyone else he needed to be born again. That means born from above or born of the Spirit.
The real reason I AM going to Heaven…
I am going to Heaven because one day about 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ, God in human flesh, came to this earth and died to pay the penalty of my sin in my place. He was buried and three days later He rose from the dead. He was seen by hundreds of people. When I was eighteen years old, I put my faith and trust in Him and what He did for me.
I am going to Heaven by grace through faith. In Ephesians 2:8 states, “For by grace are ye saved through faith”.The grace is that Jesus died to give me eternal life. The faith is me putting my faith and trust in what He did for me. I am going to Heaven because of what Jesus did and because I put my faith in what He did. That is the only way anybody gets to go to Heaven.
